Premixing Grain
Granulation or premixing of karated grain is highly recommended.
The advantages of premixing are:
- Lower melt temperature when casting
- Lower melt losses
- More consistent melt time
- Better mixture of metal
Even though premixing is not essential, it allows a greater
consistency in casting. By premixing, superheat temperatures are not
needed in the cast for proper mixing. This lowers the melt loss
factor due to loss of zinc in the alloy. Loss factor should be 1/4
of I % or less, with 1/1O of 1 % possible under ideal conditions.
